A Tom and Jerry is a traditional Christmas time cocktail in the United States, devised by British journalist Pierce Egan in the 1820s. It is a variant of eggnog with brandy and rum added and served hot, usually in a mug or a bowl. You can usually find a Tom and Jerry mix at your grocery store, but below is the recipe to make it at home.
1/2 oz simple syrup or 1 tsp powdered sugar
1 oz dark rum
1 oz Brandy (congnac can be used as well)
Hot milk or boiling water
1/2 tsp of grated nutmeg for garnish
Separate the egg white from the egg yolk and beat them separately.
Fold the beaten eggs together and place into an Irish coffee glass.
Add the sugar or simple syrup, dark rum, and brandy.
Fill with hot milk or hot water.
Garnish with grated nutmeg.
